1995, Mixed Media 8? x 8? x 10?, Imprisoned Landscape

The piece, set to premiere at Burning Man 2001, is a 10,000 square foot forest consisting of hundreds of plants, animals, rocks, and forest dwelling entities, all made from ¼? steel plate. The forest will be enclosed in three chain link fences, nested one within another, the first measuring 100?x100?, the next 98?x98?, and the third 96?x96?. The top will sport razor wire, and only one entrance will lead into the oasis of imprisoned steel.

Within these walls will lie a fairyland in which a living lawn will be laid upon the ground with the steel flora and fauna raining, smoking, burning, steaming, misting, and generally having a jolly good time. An interactive computer network will be nested within the site so that we might speak with one another. There will be waterfalls and secret places. It is a wonderland open to all weary souls.
